The Skutt Firebox 14 has arrived! I’ve read the instruction book from cover to cover and am envisioning all the possibilities…. I purchased this model because it was the largest in my price range that runs on 110v. I wouldn’t need to make any wiring changes in my work space.
The packaging for this thing is BIG. And the kiln is HEAVY! With the help of my son, I got it into place and was anxious for a trial run. I knew to keep my expectations in check, so I used scrap glass and colors that I don’t normally use.
The first test – a tack fuse. I went with the pre-programmed – Auto – Med – Tac fuse and pushed the start button at 3:15pm on a glorious Saturday. At 10pm, it was on its way back down at 493f. I’m not going to lie, I was impatient for it to cool down to where I could open the kiln and see what happened.
Success! Not quite the contour I would want, but definitely one for the success column.
I couldn’t be happier with my first firing in the kiln and am ready to for the next test!
